Chain sharpening

Just wonderd how many of you lot use files as you main sharpening tool, any of you use the bench mounted grinders at home? are they any good? i know in the field you have to use files but was toying with getting a leccy bench grinder to make it a bit quicker...............or am i gettin lazy?

im just as lazy i never use files anymore. ive got a bench grinder at home and for on site ive got the oregon sure sharp which is a great tool for the cigerette lighter.

Does that mean with your grinders that you get less out of your chains? Only time I ever use a grinder is for harvester chain. If the chainsaw chain is really bad stick it in the vice and get two hands on the file (more purchase) makes it quicker.

i hardly ever sharpen my saws if im honest. mainly cause i never really have to use my ground saws and my top handle hardly ever needs sharpening cause theres not alot up tree to blunt it.

my grinder is at deans if you want it ian, i took it for mozza but he didnt have room. and dean has one anyway, take it if you want for a play, if its any use to you then you can get me a few magners next time we are at a show mate

me too ,by hand much better job & as for chains do them by hand too got a big fancy oregon bench grinde been there mths never done a chain yet

i hardly ever sharpen my saws if im honest. mainly cause i never really have to use my ground saws and my top handle hardly ever needs sharpening cause theres not alot up tree to blunt it.

 

So you're telling me if you are cutting a hardwood tree or a dead branch your chainsaw doesnt get slightly blunt?? i lightly sharpen my saw twice a day when im coppicing Hornbeam, can cut much faster, easier work...hardwood blunts the saw!! I hate watching people cut with a blunt saw!!
