I think the max on the 550 xp is a lot higher than 10,200…that is under load RPM and not "free maximum"

Your 13,800 is "free Max" on the Dolmar i believe.

All is good as there designed for those revs :001_smile:

Oh jeesh! I fear you are right!!.... the Husky 550xp is maximum 14,000rpm according to this: Stuart Brown Landscape and Arborist Supplies - Husqvarna 550 XP

Thanks for putting me right on that :thumbup1:

cheers, steve

The Dolmar is over, bulky and clumsy to handle - and isn't really an alternative to a 550xp.

Really???? What utter s hit.

Agreed, Troll: you need to man up - take a trip to the gym or start using your saw all day every day.

Ian C: agreed, 260 wasnt a bad saw & the Dolly looks good to me

I've had a 550xpg for a couple of years with no issues (was one of the very first in the country) and have a couple of dolmar 5105`s now.

I did use them side by side for a bit. They're quite different, the 550 is a bit nimbler, but not by much. If I'd be felling softwood all day I'd probably choose the husky over the dolly.

The 5105 is a much more friendly beasty. It's much easier to just pick up and use if you've more than one person using it. (the husky will only listen to one master!) it's way easier to start (without a primer or decomp), my 8 year old daughter can start it. It's got a bit more torque, and more power at mid revs whereas the husky shines near max revs.

For "general use" the dolly is my choice!
