The manager could of left on bad terms and anything to do with him will be a bad taste in their mouth.

I'd go and speak with them and if they are genuinely un aware of your job then try and meet in the middle and put the blame on this other guy, shake hands and keep a good customer!

Even if you could cover your costs and take your share on the chin.

If they just point blank palm you off then small claims court like Felix says.

Horrible when it happens, very stressfull and unfair

Quoted a job for a hotel that we've worked for before. Always dealt with the maintenance man. He called and asked us to carry out the work.

We called in and confirmed with duty manager before starting. Finished the job, put in the invoice and now 3 months later they are saying no-one said the work was to be done and there not paying. The maintenance man left just after we finished.

I know folk get signed paperwork and purchase orders but up here it's not normally like that.

Any advice or help?

A contract can be verbal and legally binding , I would track down the guy that gave the ok for the job and get him to sign a affidavit to confirm the work order. As he was employed by the hotel at the time he will be deemed as their agent. No wriggling out of that one.

Just an update, I went to see the manager today. She refused to speak to me saying she's too busy on conference calls all day. I said I'd come back tomorrow, she said she'd be busy then too.

Some folk

Claims court it is then

Have you taken photos of the work you completed? They can't really argue too much if you have pics of a freshly cut tree stump.

Tell your story on trip adviser etc - it would put me off going to a hotel if they were shafting local tradespeople.
