Meetings with remarkable trees, the Arbtalk version

It sure is amazing. More so when you think about it. As well as the mechanics of supporting that large tonnage of timber on quite a bit of thin air, it's also surprising that most of the unseen roots must be in waterlogged soil. The water level of the lake was only a couple feet lower, (and I suspect that was relatively low).

Just to show what amazing trees Cypress can be.  Lots of stunning ones on Tresco, Isles of Scilly.  This one I especially loved.  Also scilly is full of lovely mature elms which is such a pleasure to see.

 

 This cypress is a Macrocarpa.
