Looking for advice on a medium saw

I'm living on a farm with lots of large tree hedging over grown ponds and a little woodland. I currently have a sthil 038 farm boss and a sthil ms170 I picked up cheap nearly new. Both great saws but the 170 can be a little under powered with the 12 inch bar so I'm reluctant to put a longer bar on and the 038 is so heavy your knackered just carrying it about but very handy when the power is needed and it's got a 20 inch bar.

Mostly I'm doing coppicing and fire wood so I'm looking for something in the middle about a 16 inch bar maybe but gutsy.

Not particularly fussed about the brand obviously 'm used to a sthil but iv got friends who love their husqvarnas too. Iv also seen the larger mcculloch saws are very similar to the husqvarna but cheaper but that might mean they are rubbish iv not seen one of them in use or up close.

 

What saw would you recommend?

Not used the Dolmar or the Echo but heard very good reports , no negatives . As you know Jon I have a Husky 560 and am happy with that but that's not the only gig in town now .......

All depends on how much you want to pay if you want a new saw or don't mind a good used saw. The saws that come to mind are the husqvarna 254 or 346 the stihl 026 or a dolmar I think its a 115 someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

If you would like a new saw echos are good very reliable

The husqvarna 550 is good but depends on if you get a lemon

The stihl 261 is just a good as the husky

And dolmar still make the 115

Can't recommend auto tune offerings from Stihl or Husq I'm afraid; I need to produce timber, not hang out in a repair shop.

60cc - Echo 620sx or Dolmar 6100

70cc - Husqvarna 365 but maybe bit heavy

 

I too would avoid auto-tune they seem expensive if they need attention
