There a wealth of info on youtube (in between the career anarchists and rich socialist protestors types) search for bbc licensing and you'll be inundated!

You can have a TV

You don't need a licence

You need a licence if you watch live broadcast TV

As a single man - on the balance of probability - I never had a licence. The chances of the muppets calling while I was watching - asleep on the sofa between 02:30 - 05:00 AM having returned from the pub was so slim as to not be worthwhile. Married now and subjected to more reasonable hours and she insists - it really rankles me though.

This isn't entirely true- you can have a TV in the physical sense but must prove you have no means of recieving or recording broadcasted televeison.

He has the interweb, so he may struggle to argue otherwise.

They keep pestering us at our shop. If we were ever to watch live TV, or even catch up TV on the PC then we must pay our licence fee.

But we honestly don't, it is after all a place of work.

We also have to have a licence to listen to music on the radio in the workplace. Its Ok for me to hear my own music, but if a member of staff (all family) or a customer was able to overhear my music we would have to pay the licence fee.

Same applies to any business, no matter how large or small, indoors or out. If a customer or an employee can hear any music then pay up!

Just get a blanking plate for the wall socket and replace the TV aerial facia with this. Probably £1 from toolstation screwfix etc.

I've never had a TV licence in over 10 years. We have a monitor which is hdmi but with no aerial socket. But now who actually watches via aerial? Skybox or internet now.

Never had licensing people round.

It can't be long before it's abolished.

The beeb is a real business these days printing mags, selling shows, DVDs merchandise etc. why should it bleed joe average?

We don't pay a licence to use electric or go to the beach or many other things that are now part if our society/culture!

And no I have never watched live TV. Just catch up. As I've mentioned in other threads my TV tolerance/ patience is not much.

Ok people we are self employed and work ..... silly hrs 60 / 70 are normal per week .

I ain't got time to watch the crap that these Muppet's put out on the telly ?

I received a knock on my door this evening by a guy with a clip board .... struggling to speak English ?

Telling me that my TV license has expired ?

----------------------------------------------------

So I reply with yes it probably has ....... I /we work full-time and ain't got the energy to even watch general TV of an evening .

He reply's with ...... let me into your home so I can validate this ? him being very pushy .

-----------------------------------------------------

Flip side of the coin is that I now enter the conversation and take over from my good lady ... after my hot bath and this door knockers crap I,m like raging .

So if anybody could enlighten me on these matters it would be very much appreciated . Thanks Paul :001_smile:

Hi Paul,

Have a look at this web page - it's a bit of a ballache, but if you only watch catch-up services (like iPlayer) you don't need a TV licence.

Official TV Licensing website - Live TV and how you watch it

This is what we do and we quite legally don't have a licence. The BBC might change this soon but hey... whatever.

The bloke with a clipboard sounds dodgy. I'd chase him. I'm sure you did...:001_smile:

"Let me in to validate this" :mad1:

Paul.

You only need a license if you watch live tv.

You can have an Arial and a tv without a license.

They have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you watch live tv in other words they have to catch you in The act.

They can't fine you if you don't give them your name. They can only come in if you invite them in. They are a private firm who are on a commission basis and hence so pushy.

It is a civil offence also you are not a criminal and therefore the police cannot be involved. To enter your property they would require a court warrant.

I have a license as my other half insisted.
