Thats unfair:thumbdown:

If you are going just to do that job there must be a minimum charge, as it will take a slice of your day and cost you real money. If your already there and your costs are covered by the job you'r there to do, a freebie will cost you little too nothing.

And my point being...

no one would have to spend time and money on going to her house if the job had bin done already...

NO!!

You referred to people who offer to carry at out work at a reasonable rate as "arseholes" which I still feel is unfair.

Whilst I'm struggling to work out what we're arguing about.....

Let's not forget that when we are working on a tree and we do the tiny job for the next door neighbour for buttons, it's actually the original client who is effectively paying for the work.

How do you come to that concussion???:confused1:

Lets say I'm charging Mrs Jones £500 pounds to fell her tree, I get there at 9 work until 4.30, she pays me the £500, I leave.

Alternatively, Lets say I'm charging Mrs Jones £500 to fell her tree, I get there at 9 work until 4.30, then nip next door for 10 minuets do a small job for £??, the at 4.45 I collect my £500 from Mrs Jones and leave.

In both situations Mrs Jones got her tree felled for the £500 agreed, so she is IMO unaffected.

#conclusion btw

I'll admit the logic is a little tortured...but....if you were to come out to do a quote for the neighbours you would charge more for the little job i.e. you would have charged £150 as a minimum but they'd get it for £50 for example ergo they got the job on the cheap because you'd already made your days money on the original client.

They've saved themselves 100 quid. The original client paid full price, they didn't.

Many people will use this tactic to get stuff on the cheap.

Thats just a bit of good luck on the neighbours part, I guess if it bothers you, simply knock what you make on the little job of the main job.

Life is not always fair, some people get an opportunity and take it :001_smile:

Some people make their own luck, I've had more than one client grumble about their neighbour's habit of popping round to chat with tradesmen with the aim of getting a little job done on the cheap.

I'll do it of course if I've time and the money is right, I can see how it might irk the original client.
