I've been summoned to court as a witness for a company that I do some subbing for. The hearing is booked in for three days next week.

Today I've recived a cheque for the grand sum of £120 to cover travelling expenses to and from court and includes an amount by way of compensation for loss of time.

Now, this nowhere near covers what I'm going to loose by not working those three days. So, my question is, who makes up the shortfall?, or do I loose out and just have to suffer it?

I've got a conference call with the Barrister tomorrow and will ask him. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the situation?

They will normally ask to see proof of earnings for the year ie from Tax return and base it on that , you will hear all sort of stories of mates telling you to say you had a big job planned etc and going to loose thousands. Take no notice.

Bill who? The company that I'm a witness for, can I do that legally?

I've looked on the Interweb and can't find anything that clearly states what a self employed person is entitled to claim.
