Blanking off the egr valve

Maybe i should blank the egr on my transit

My landcruiser had a blocked egr valve. Dealer said he cleaned it but after I check he hadnt. Months later recall and replacement injectors, then after 6 months, back smokey and no power. Jeep had no ommh until 2000 revs.

 

After dropping jeep into various garages, I was told needed all 4 injectors replacing, egr, and possibly a new engine.

 

Decided nothing to loose, so cut a small piece of steel and placed it on the block before egr.

 

Within minutes of starting up, smoke was less, and within a day, all the blue, black and white smoke diminished.

 

Jeep is way better, mpg up, power etc.

 

Im not a fan of the egr set up; and seeing the gunk which is like grease, assures me that the set up is far from ideal.

If I ever get around to it I wouldn't mind taking off the intake manifold just to see how much stuff has collected there.. I'll be sure to post pics if I do!

Recently did this on our V6 TDI, was "average" in terms of deposit build-up but the intake manifold branch we cleaned out is pretty tiny given the potential and desirable air flow you want through it. Asthmatic it was...

I've been having trouble with my 58 ford ranger, engine man light keeps coming on and it says it's the egr valve! But still runs the same?! How do you go about blanking it off?

With newer stuff, you might get an fault code thrown at you if you block the egr valve. So it could be that yours is blocked or something? It's literally a plate that goes between the valve and a return pipe from the turbo (?)

I bought mine off of eBay for £4

Yeah gets blocked, it did it before and we just cleaned and freed it up, but keeps getting coked up!!
