I`ve not heard that one my self, but I know you can not get alloy ad-blue tanks due to corrosion, sorry for the derail!

 

 

 

Taking shape Ian, does the exhaust your swopping from one side of cab to the other have a larger bore pipe on the bottom of the stack than the pipe going into it by a fair bit, in the original unimog style? if its a normal fit it makes a lot of difference, in terms of noise and vibration in the cab (for the worse).

 

 

Not sure until I start putting it together.

The point Skyhuck raised about the springs is worthy enough of note that I thought I should bring it up again. The AV springs can cause some pretty serious braking issues in the wrong circumstances so it's worth checking out. When speed and weight is combined on a unit as unstable as a mog, you at least want to know that it will stop as required!

 

The problem comes from the lack of taper. When you start to add a little bit of weight the original springs will move a fair bit initially. That movement between axle and chassis changes the position of a little brake pressure adjuster, so you get more braking performance as the weight goes up. Problems arise when you start to load up the AV springs but don't really squeeze them down hard. They don't flex much initially and so the brakes don't know that you're loaded up. It really isn't ideal as you can end up with a pretty hefty part load and the brakes thinking that you're still empty!

Interesting, what's the best option? Send them back or can the load sensor be adjusted?

with the crane on it, you've already compressed the original springs beyond the tapered portion, was it fitted with the double, Ie inner and outer rears, or was it on a single, and did it have the factory lift kit fited. as for the load sensing valve, it is totally adjustable, it can be set up to suit whatever spring/load combination is fitted. are you going to be using it seriously off road, or just "off road", because with a large chip box, a rear anti roll bar would be a good investment, also watch your front- rear weight ratio, or your going to get seasick very quickly, as has been said, an interesting project, but lots more piccies needed

Vos said the same today on the phone. Well about the sensor. It's currently got double Spring but both are shot now by the looks of things.

Come on Ian you must have some pictures to tease us with by now, how's she looking?

 

 

Just been sorting the fuel tank out. Nothing of worth posting. Fingers crossed next week I'll need her to lift an oak stem over a hedge.

 

Had a few delays because we cover a lot of commercial contracts so good money comes over days working on my Unimog.

 

In all honestly I'd expected to have her completed by now. But thankfully I have other trucks to cover the overrun.

None of my "project" vehicles have ever been completed anywhere near their expected due date!
