This might turn into "Ians engine rebuild thread" looking at the colour and form of that smoke.Consider having it compression tested and the injectors looked at.

I'll take your advice Mike as im very new and a novice when it comes to unimogs. It does clear after about 5 minutes driving down the road, so i assumed be it right or wrong it was just a unimog thing.

Might just have glazed bores if it's spent a lot of time just ticking over running the crane, my tractor was very much like that when I got it but a few good road runs with a heavy load soon cleaned it out and hardly a wiff of smoke now even when cold.

Good to finally meet you briefly on Friday ian and telling me why this is a no rush project.

Give it an Oil and filter change.monitor the Oil consumption by using the hour clock as a reference. If your happy with it smoking then its up to.

I would recomend getting to compression tested and the injectors looked at (they have to come out for the test). Also they can see if the bores are glazed at the same time.It could also be the seal between the valve train and the intake ports on the head,if that splits it sucks oil into the intakes when its running, easy fix.

We can all hypothesis untill the Cows come home, but is burning oil and its good to know why.

What you talking about Mike?!

My Unimog produced much worse smoke than that all the time and it ran fine.

Well, no power, massive oil consumption, stinking.........

Hahaha!
