Large walnut tree fallen advice

I have a large walnut tree roughly 90 years old that has recently fallen and am looking for advice on getting it removed from my garden and whether anyone would be likely to buy the tree and remove it for free. I'm based in Leicester and the tree is roughly 60 ft tall and the trunk length to the first bough 2.6 metres length.

What diameter is the trunk?

As stated above, you will almost certainly have to pay for having the tree cut up and removed but if the main trunk is a good size with a lot of dark coloured heartwood it may be possible to sell it to offset some of your costs. If it has about 18" of heartwood you might get offered around £100 for the trunk after everything else has been removed.

If you want to go down this route then photos as it is now and of the trunk after clearing, particularly showing the cut end, would get you more interest.

Do you think we could have one thread about Walnut without that bloody video being posted? It was funny the first time, but not the tenth.

Tree surgeons think felling a tree always costs money. Forestry contractors look at trees completely differently and often/usually pay for standing timber. Many domestic trees are commercially viable if done as freebies, some are even worth paying for. Most aren't but some are. So if as the OP didn't say that he/she thought it was worth a fortune, please could we refrain from assuming that that is the case? It's just an honest enquiry, and need not be greeted with sarcasm and in jokes.
