Hi, you may not be aware that there are a couple of threats to our sport looming. The first is an EU proposal to change the gun ownership laws, this would ban all semi-automatic sporting weapons, internet sale of firearms and components etc. The second threat originates in the UK where Defra is bending to pressure to impose a total ban on lead shot. Two online petitions are being run to try to put pressure on the relevant authorities to prevent these bans happening. personally i am quite happy for gun laws to be tightened and think it would be best if shooting were done at a range and not at animals.

I know its not allowed to shoot water/wild fowl with lead weather they are below the mean high water mark or inland . How you police it is another matter .

I'm no fan of semi-autos, but fully condone their place in vermin control.

Banning lead would hurt.

I'm a bit off the pace with what's currently out there, but when it was banned for wildfowl I soon realised that steel was crap and I had to sell one of my kidneys to buy a couple of boxes of bismuth.

Not used steel my self Mark as I don't shoot the marsh any more but I have heard that the steel tends to go through rather than flatten out like the lead and quarry can fly on a bit .

On the shoot that Mrs Egg beats on the gamekeeper supplies steel shot when they are shooting ducks over the water.
