Oh come on!

Please!

The man is a professional bull-shotter; a very well educated man who nevertheless chooses to spout utter nonsense to create a verbal comfort blanket for the congenitally child-like.

This is just more of the same bull-shot.

It's equivalent to sinead o'conner tearing up pics of the pope or madonna making faux outrageous videos or judges leaving a tv show on the eve of a new series or ...

It's good for business.

Edit to create bull 'shot' for the benefit of the pearl clutchers

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

As far as I can make out 'agnostic' was a term developed by THHuxley - a wonderful Victorian scientist and popularizer of science - to cover himself from the censure of his day when, if he had 'come out' as an atheist, his career would have over.

He defined it as believing in god but not in the power of god. It is essentially the same thing but meant he could describe the natural world in a way that didn't need magic pixies without actually saying huh, shock horror, grasp those pearls ladies, there is no god.

Otherwise its atheism light; atheism for those who aren't sure:biggrin:

OK, my understanding was that atheists believe there is no god and could not possibly be any god, where as agnostics believe that there is presently no evidence of god, but if some evidence comes forward they may be convinced.

What gets me is religious people claim the universe is to marvellous to have not been the product of design, so god had to have created it, but then god who by definition must be more marvellous had no maker :confused1:

Ach, you're just being picky now:-)

??

So what will happen to not playing chess when chess disappears then

There's no intrinsic value of being in a state of "not playing chess" just like there's no intrinsic value in your chess/scuba diving analogy. There is however intrinsic value in choosing to be an atheist, for example....it can help you give meaning to your life in ways that "not playing chess" cannot.

"Not playing chess" is just another way of saying "nothing I do is of interest" I think that would describe your own current state of mind, yes?

You do realise that atheist means 'not theist' - 'not godist' - that it is describing yourself in terms of what you don't beleive in; don't you?

And that that is why 'not playing chess is my hobby' is quite a good analogy?

I cannot for the life of me see how you make the transition from "I don't play chess" to "nothing I do is of interest"

Nor what you actually mean by you last two lines.
