How to move a broke down tracked chipper?

I know with excavators you remove the track motors and then drag them tracks then free wheel along as nothing to stop them turning

my tracked chipper set on fire a couple of weeks ago on a site, thankfully there was an 8 tonne machine onsite that could lift it onto a trailer, i wouldnt have wanted to do it with a much smaller machine

That sounds like it would work, sure if it ever did go bang i would find a way to shift it. Wouldnt want to damage it even further by doing something daft.

I think the easiest option would be to get a telehandler to scoop it up and load it onto a trailer, thats all I do when I load ours on the neck of the trailer.

Its just a breakdown mark, no need to crack open a tinny and go off the rails again.

Asked the guys from Vermeer how to move a SC60tx stumper if it ever has an issue.

 

They said there is a screw or similar at the drive motors, turn/remove and the tracks turn free.

Probably similar with those tracked chippers.

Basically something like this for most track systems to allow freewheel of drive motors .

Mac, Jason and I once moved a six ton tracked mulcher to a position where it could be restarted with a 5hp Honda petrol with a pump mounted on it. I used the same thing to move a SafeTrak off site and onto a lorry with the same after the owner had screwed his engine.
