How far would you travel for a job?

25 miles is my limit

 

I've got rivers to cross NE to S at about the 20-25 mile point, the sea to the S, and it gets scary if you go more than 20 miles W, so physically, physiologically and practically, 20-25 miles is quite enough in any direction!

Its not the distance or time to the job that is important,its the distance home overloaded ,tired and not knowing where the local bobbies like to ambush you,that matter.also if there is chip or logs to remove from site during the working day, can make working at distance a pain, if i am gooing in tractor 25 miles max truck 50 or an hours driving time.but if chip etc to remove try around 10 miles

If theres a good profit in the job then why not stay overnight at a cheap B&B near the job site to save travelling

I stay as local as possible.

It's the pricing that kills it.

If someone I have no contact with finds me on the Internet to price a job 30 miles away that could kill the best part of a Saturday morning.

Only to hear 'sorry, the local guy was a bit cheaper'. Really? I wonder why?

As said, multiple chip and log runs play a part as well.

I actually do enjoy the occasional away trip though, as I price them high and enjoy the drive back knowing I'm temporarily rich beyond my wildest dreams.

It all depends.... i have lads travelling from 50 miles away, and 20 miles away. I once had one lad come from 90 miles away and he was the best worker ive had!

 

I used to regularly travel 55-60 miles to a site to contract climb
