conflicting reports on how this happened , i new the guy and he was self employed working for another company , the guy that was on the ground coudnt climb and was aparently on the bog at the time when he heard the scream  then when he came out he came out he called the ambulance but obviously they couldnt get him so they had to wait for the firebrigade.

the cut to his throat was less than an inch small and it was roumoured that the saw wasnt even running and he had it trapped so yanking to get it out and wallop ! , the company i work for had to go and finish the job and said that the cuts in the tree looked like the saw was blunt in which case he would have using unessecary force .

This happened last march 2008 and hse still havnt sorted it . the guy who contracted him in has now given up the game .

Bollox mate i'm afraid, if you cut yourself and you can't get yourself out of the tree you've had it end of story. Bear that it mind constantly.

It's amazing what a nasty cut you can get from a chainsaw turned off. I tripped over with a 254XP in my right hand on a forestry site. My left forearm came down on the saw chain. I ended up having eight stitches and that was through a Stihl jacket with the saw switched off !

So true!!

YOUare your best hope if you have an accident, keep your rope free and never climb on a line thats not long enough to get you down in one.

Its amassing what an injured person is capable of for the first few minuets after the injury, adrenalin is marvelous stuff.

That is so true...

It's a bit like a deer when you shoot it... you can get a perfect heart shot, and still they can run for 100m or more sometimes, completley on adrenaline..

It's most likley adrenaline that enables the human body to get itself out of trouble, down a tree etc... I know that the survival instinct in all mamals is bred into you, so it's a natural thing.
