True, the other problem is lack of brake adjustment allowing the damper to take the whole weight of the chipper when braking.

 

That is also a v fair comment.

I come down on the side of, leave it attached, maintain our brakes correctly and replacement dampers are cheap enough should they loose their characteristics!

£80.00 mine cost to replace and my chippers 2 years old working 6 days a week normally. So factored in replacing a damper isn't a huge cost.

 

About 11p per day.
