Fixing a favorite tool

Working on site and man mountain of an assistante broke the handle on my favorite log pick. Lets hope a bit of resin does the trick.

 

The tape is just to hold it together while the glue dries.

I think I would be looking out for a new shaft, when that goes again your man mountain may be brought to ground level with the spike stuck between the eyes .

you may want to put a couple of screws in there too otherwise it will just come apart next time it's used.

 

 

i'd reshaft it with robinia, it's better than ash and as good as hickory with the added benefit that it won't rot after a few years left outside.

This my favourite axe that got broken about 10yrs ago arc welded it and it's been fine ever since :thumbup:

We will see how it goes. Had a similar break a year ago and that repair is still holding. The grain does not quite run in line with the shaft at that area hence the breaking. I have now also wrapped the lower shaft with glass fibre which should help with strength and the impacts from over striking which probably caused the problems in the first place.

 

Needs a clean up but basically done
