I cut and split to order. Some customers have 6" and some have 24" and i can adjust the price accordingly. It does not take long at all to cut and split a load of 24", whereas a load of 6" takes an age and they get more wood on a load.

The ideal length is the same as the length of a piece of string.

Twice as long from one end to the middle then:001_tongue:. Save some to be cut for those special customers. Keeps everyone happy then. (if that's possible)

Lots of people round our way wanted 6 inch logs but they were not happy to pay an extra 15% so never sold much. I think lots of 5 kw stoves have gone into small fire places. The box is 12" wide and so people want to get a new log along side the one nearly finished. Granny logs I think they are called.
