 UK company Ebac are producing the first British built washing machine in years which apparently is designed to be completely repairable and has decent reviews.. there's a good pro strip down on youtube.

 

They look well built so I'm thinking about it as my 35 year old Bosch / AEG may be needing a strip down for a bearing and a service which I'll do at my leisure... the Ebac are not the cheapest, but neither was the Bosch which I can still get parts for.

 

I for one am happy to buy and support home grown products if they are, available, quality, built to last and be repairable👍 pity it's not too common these days though.

My fridge is using too much electricity so that's the first thing I'm looking to replace to get my electricity consumption below 6kWh/day.

I'm still no further with my solar project apart from much reading .. but when push comes to shove I'd really like to support a UK business as the opportunity is rarely there to be had 👍

One way to beat the system is buy industrial. Way more expensive but guaranteed to outlive you.

Another way is to buy old. As the cliché says; "they don't make them like that anymore". Thinking of the 50&70 yr old food mixers that were mentioned a couple pages back, still going strong. Or the 60+ yr old Record 53 woodworking vice that I've been restoring recently, (all that was required was a strip down, clean and lubricate). Modern versions aren't a patch on it in terms of engineering quality and robustness.

Not much scope for supporting British PV, I think mine are chinese and I know my battery is but the performance certainly seems worthwhile. I just wish I could get a few hundred Watts of electricity out of the stove, there's another thread for that. I'm glad I took the plunge before inflation really cut in.
