I do a lot loan working, try an app called GB Worker. It's free it gives you your GPS etc then with a photo attached if you want send all the info to your wife or whoever. They then will have all the information if you don't come home or don't report in. Most importantly tell someone in the morning where you are off too.

Coincidentally I've just read this on the FISA website which may be of relevance:

"999 Text Service to assist hill walkers and climbers

Mobile phone reception in the Highlands can often be intermittent or non-existent. If you are involved in an incident on the hill and need to call assistance but cannot make voice calls, you may now contact the 999 emergency services using a short messaging service (SMS) text from your mobile phone.

The service was originally set up in 2009 for people who are hard of hearing or who have a speech impediment. The service has been successful in helping identify crime and enabling emergency calls to be made when otherwise contact would have been difficult or impossible for the people involved.

The service will now assist those needing emergency assistance in the hills when mobile reception is poor and there is not enough signal to make a voice call. The benefit is that a text message can be composed and sent in a single operation. You should specify 'Police-Mountain Rescue' when sending the text, and include information about your location, nature of the incident and those involved.

You will only be able to use this service if you have registered with emergency SMS first.

Register now: don't wait for an emergency. To register, text the word 'register' to 999. You will get a reply - then follow the instructions you are sent. This will only take approx. two minutes of your time and could save your life!"

Cheers..

Paul

Thank you for that Paul, my wife and I have just successfully registered.

Also we have registered on the bSafe App this has the advantage of using "find my phone" co-ordinates but has the disadvantage of my wife knowing where I am not meant to be!

None of this will make me stop trying to operate more safely, especially when I am on my own.

Hi Stephen, hope you're well.

Lots of good stuff already but, as a matter of interest, consider having a look here Lone workers

Also, personal first aid kit, well stocked is worth including.

Cheers..

Paul

how can I have the site specific RA's and Method statements in my phone so I can adjust them all with my phone.

Pen and paper is not my thing and I never use them now.

I can email and send them to staff, customers onsite at the touch of a button.

Even to change them as the job changes through out the day.

I have them as an attachment in an email, I want all the bits that are highlighted in red for my own information. Am I missing something with technology ?:confused1::biggrin:

I have spent most of my working life working alone whether it be Feeding pigs ,Baling,Combine , underneath a tractor , inside a Concrete mixer BUT NOW I am very wary after all the accidents and near misses I have had so these days on small tree jobs and hedge cutting etc I strike a deal with my private jobs that someone is in and do a discount on the Job .....some may laugh but it's better than employing some half wit .

No offence to the decent workers out there .

Spot on fella ..... Just add a whistle and we are ( trawling the same waters ) as they say )

Some of those apps are rubbish . I for one would never want to rely on an app to save my ass however fat it maybe  . If your in a residential area a whistle will suffice . If your unconscious no doubt a nosey neighbor will be watching .Trust me someone will be there / turn up . Out in the woods 100m or even many km from the nearest dwelling you need another man . That's a fact . Common sense again guys . Just make sure you get home safe . If in doubt get the winch out ......little felling motto :001_smile:

You are correct, I reacted too quickly to Whitenoises post, it shouldn't just be a paperwork excercise, I need to remember that, thanks.

As far as not injuring myself, that can happen even if i have 3 people onsite.

The tasks I am performing are simple tasks, it's more for slips and trips and God forbid a Heart attack. That's all I can think of tbh but so many things can happen that are outwith my control.

A whistle is a very good 1, I may be working alone but there arealways people about.

Thanks
