I had a job go wrong when I first started on line-clearance, could have been a very similar thing to what happened to test-cricket. The person who was most directly affected was me. I knocked out the 33kv feed to a town into the bargain. I had asked repeatedly for a shut-down, and it was declined due to "costs" and "profit margins". I should have refused to carry out the job, but I as young dumb and full of........ so i just got on with it. I was furious with myself for allowing peer pressure to get to me. No amount of ranting from another would have had any effect on me, I was so angry at myself for cocking up in such style. Afterwards i calmed down, and assessed every part of the job, from the beginning thru to the incident, and learned a lot from it.

Now I am (hopefully) more mature and experienced, I find a calm calculated approach is necessary, both in how I deal with a job, a client or a co-worker, people rarely listen to a rant, but they will listen to a calmly reasoned discussion and maybe learn more from it. Its not a case of being cuddly and soft, I just find people will listen more if you keep calm and objective.

Basic assisted felling mistakes what i can see

1) Gob is to deep nearly 50%(gob cuts don`t help the tree to fall!!!)

2) Felling cut is to high as said this can act as a step cut.

3) Hinge is not big enough or in line.

Assisted felling is all down to accurate cuts and the right tension on the pulling rope. You don`t need shed loads of tension on the pulling rope to make the tree bend like a bow, Only enough so the saw dosn`t trap.

2 pulleys would be enough for that size tree.

glad no one was injured.
