In answer to Cov's question.... Having followed threads like this over the years on here,

And bearing in mind I left the UK a decade ago! Here's what I reckon.

Top climber, topper, and rigging kit, in the right locale ie, London or other major conurbation, just shy of 200 quid,

More inexperienced climber in a less affluent area 100 quid with a sliding scale in between.

I'm just trying to find out what the going rate is for a self employed climber.

Depends how good you are and by that I mean how quick you can work without going "Wreck-It Ralph"

Plenty of climbers out there from top of the line to no hopers

On a scale of 1-10 how do you recon you rate? (1 bad 10 good)

The acid test is to put your prices up and see if your clients will pay it:thumbup:

If you are going in to climb for day for someone you are working for that company so they will have the employers liability policy as its there job regardless of whether you are telling the groundies what to do or not. If you are doing your own jobs on the side using guys to help you that's when you may need employers liability which is different from being a sub contract climber

Well put Jay.

Cov your EL would never, ever be necessary unless you were taking on jobs of your own.

Sharks in suits....

Back on topic, anything from £130/ day upwards.

if you employ people or bring people in to help you on your own work or own jobs acquired, you need employers liability....

if you do jobs on your own and dont use or have any help its best to have public liability, it's not compulsory but defo best to have it

as quote above!!

beat me too it!

That pretty much sums it up.

It is largely location dependent.

do you know any other freelance climbers in your area? Ask them what they charge.

I think location is a very big part of it!!! You have to be bloody good to get 130+ in Yorkshire

That'll be why people happily pay me £150 a day on the odd occasion I do a climbing day for someone else ;-)

But your absolutely correct it's very dependent on location and what you bring to the party but also how many other freelancers are available locally.
