Funny isn't it, when he was alive he was a drunken laughing stock.

Dead, he's JFK crossed with Gandhi.

Not one person in the UK thought he was a drunken laughing stock, you're ill informed and ignorant if that's your general view of how he was perceived by the people of the UK.

He would've also been the first person to distance himself with comparisons to JFK and Ghandi.

Mick, let's face it, you're post above was a pitiful attempt at trying to be funny or make some kind of half baked observation about society. On both levels it was a spectacular failure and worst of all, it just makes you look stupid.

Seemed like a genuine decent man who actually cared and stood by what he believed in. In the build up to the Iraq war when most other politicians and a lot of the media were in support he was a strong voice against it and was correct in what he said. RIP

I suppose if I was after "likes" it was a spectacular failure, if it was about saying how I felt about all the retrospective reverence it wasn't.

No matter what your aims it was a spectacular fail, there is no doubt about that.

I think Mr Kennedy would understand your point Mick, below is a cut and paste from his Twitter account.

Jimmy Savile was a true and long-standing friend to the West Highlands over decades of diligence and decency. A sad loss indeed.

Surley Mick is allowed his views on the passing? His views were not homophobic, xenophobic or racist. We may not agree with his comments but he is entitled to them.

Except it was made as statement of fact, not an opinion and he has given to evidence to support his claim.

The thrust of my post was about the transition from how he was perceived whilst alive to how people's opinion changed once he'd died. Not so much that I thought him a fool particularly. I had/have no real issue with him.

Anyway, here's a clip of him on the BBC's Question Time.
