Did a job yesterday and knocked on the door for the cheque.

"How much do I owe you"

"495"

"but you have done loads of extras, it,s surely more"

"no, thats fine, we got it all done in the time I allowed"

Cheque was written out for £4950

"this cheque is wrong, It should be 495."

"yes thats what you quoted 4950"

'but its four hundred and ninety five not four thousand"

"your kidding me, surely you can't do all that work for £495, I was expecting £5k"

"no madam, i,m a tree surgeon not a barrister"

anyways, she gave me a cheque for £495 and £40 cash tip

Even if I was bankrupt and desperate, I still would not have accepted the wrong amount.

I've had similar before; log customer left loads too much cash in an envelope; he did it deliberately to test me though. Never worth yielding to the temptation.
