Split wood yourself or hire somebody?

How many of you actual 'tree surgeons' actually spend time splitting wood yourself to sell?

 

Trying to work out whether it's worth my time or not? Maybe hiring somebody. If so, pay them daily, hourly or by how much they split?

 

I have a decent amount of logged wood that needs splitting but really struggling for time as of late.

We have the lads split ours either when have quiet time or Saturdays.

It is very inefficient. Even with a tractor Splitter. Motivation is required. When you do it for yourself you can normally get twice as much done as an employee.. still it pays a wage.. you might not have as many distractions in jodhpurs at your yard..

True, it's a catch-22: get more done on my own but not having the time to do it.

 

The only distraction at my yard is the old over friendly farmer! Wana swap?!

 

Think will just have to force myself to do it on a few weekends.

Iv managed to build up quite a pile now but the motivation to cut n split it all isnt there! All hardwood too strangely!

Surely the lads will work faster to impress ? A lad I know has 3 extra gears he never used normally when a female arrives in the yard.

I've also always presumed I would need to have at least two guys in the yard splitting due to H&S??

Sounds like a mate of mine. We used to go to the gym together and he'd do two lengths of the pool and retire to the jacuzzi and sauna. One time he brought his girlfriend along. He was up and down that pool like an Olympic swimmer, twenty lengths or something
