`Going for 50 odd years` in itself will not save a business. But there are things a business can do to increase its success.

Not getting paid for a 10k job would be terrible.

Maybe a firm should not take on any single job it can not afford to do for free.

well if we are heading for another recession don't be afraid to diversify into other things, I remember the last one and I ended up going heavy plant operating for a local quarry part time to keep money coming in, but personally I think the Goverment control the ecomony far better now than the late eighties (not a Thatcher fan) in the favour of the general public.

Well are we in one? i'm pretty certain we are in the start of one! lots of firms I speak to in all trades, say they are very quiet.

My brother-inlaw a very successfull businessman, industrial electrical engineering company, says hes been very very quiet since November, I've spoke to a lot of BShitters lately who claim to be busy again all trades, you scratch the surface and dig for the truth they end up teling you they are quiet as well..

I've been going for 15 years plus and i've not been this quiet for a very very long time! and my companys work as a few on here know, is second to none!

Again are we in a Recession? the front page of Saturdays Independent thought so, heres a an article from the Independant http://money.independent.co.uk/property/homes/article3353651.ece

I keep myfingers crossed the economy will pick-up , but my heart tells me we are in for a few very rough years!

I don't agree with the last point..I don't think anyone controls the economy any more. We're at the mercy of the collective greed and cowardice of market speculators and fund managers, all acting in their own self interest to the exclusion of everything else. Recession might be a self fulfilling prophesy, and there are a lot of financial journalists and the like talking everything down, but I can't see how my actions will change anything. It's a time where you have to bend with the wind rather than stand up to it..so, no rash machine purchases, cut costs, try and save up a slush fund for when work gets really thin on the ground. It would be a good idea to diversify, if the initial costs are not too high, and you're not diversifying into another industry that's on its knees.
