A bit off topic but I just bought a Landrover 130 tipper and plan to tow a 3.5t ifor trailer. This way I can legally carry a similar capacity to a 7.5t and only have to put guys though the trailer test.

It is a joke though. I have c1+e or whatever it is. Doesn't mean I had a clue how to drive the thing when I first tor down telegraph hill in an overladen Leyland daf many years ago.

lol i went down telegraph hill in an overloaded transit tipper a couple years ago , would much rather a lorry but i guess i would still overload it , there used to be a chap in torquay called mad harry , im not sure if he is still arround but he used to have a Maurious deutz scandinavian loggers truck , i saw him take that down a hill in brixham and could not belive he kept it on it wheels lol

lol i stand corrected ! well any way i would still do it !! as for the trailer test i think you will find the criteria has sadly gone up and now you dont only have to e able to manouver a trailer you need to jump through hoops !!

I don't think they've changed it, only did mine last year, it's an off road manouvres section followed by a drive round and about the place. Pretty much the same as a HGV test.

Only bugger is I can't tow anything over 750kg behind anything bigger than a 3.5t vehicle, shoud really have gone full artic but needed doing a bit before i did it......

i think its a flipping joke (i will moderate my true views on it), so it why bother with B or C+E, i can go and get a fast trac or mog and start raging round the road network at high speed with no more than a normal driving license with an artic dolly and 40ft trailer, i can get on and drive a combine on the road with yep just a normal license, this law is stupid, and serves only to generate more pointless training.

on the flip side in 30years it mean there will be very few caravans clogging the road network up

HERE HERE!!! I feel the same, i missed out too, and didnt realise at first, I have (in my farming days) towed large potato harvesters down A roads with rear wheel steering, long trailers with dolly, even low loaders with other tractors on them....but i cant tow a chipper over 750 Kg...so fraustrating, especially when you see someone with a pre 97 licence who cant reverse a trailer for toffees!!!
