Evening everyone. First post on here, and I don't want to start with a negative so I'll say firstly that I love this industry! Been working in and around it for just under 10 years and I really enjoy it.

It's just something has annoyed me a fair bit recently and just wondered if anyone else encounters anything similar. What I'm talking about is people within the industy, some with plenty of experience, some without, who believe they know everything there is to know, and will not accept any other way of doing things.

One of my favourite aspects of tree work is that there's always something to learn and always things to improve upon. Which is why it bothers me so much when people won't listen to others who may have a better way of doing things!

Anyway sorry for the rant and, again, I do love this industry. Maybe I'm just being a wet fart and just need to crack on!

Crack on you wet fart.....

Jokes aside, welcome to Arbtalk. You've a valid point. I've climbed for near enough thirty years, but we've a new climber with ten years experience who has worked with cranes.. I haven't so too right I'll learn from him. Anything else he can bring to the table is all well and good, we can all learn from each other, accepting there's different approaches to complete any task.

Sometimes it takes fresh eyes to question why something is done one way, "because we always have" is a stupid stance for anyone to take and just shows that they're not keeping up with modern equipment and methods.

There are some people in every walk of life, for whom power and the will to exert their personal beliefs over the ideas/experience of others, is paramount to their existence. Without expressing themselves at every opportunity, be it needed or not, be it wanted or not, is a life not worth living.

It might be irritating, even damned annoying. They might not even know they're doing it, it's just their way; and you won't change them. One just has to live with it.

Fair points all round! It's something I've noticed more and more of recently and apart from it being irritating, it just seems a shame that some can't keep learning new ways of going about things. Ah well, each to their own. Dont usually let things get on top of me, but hey it is Monday...
