Vehicle importation.

Does anyone have any experience of buying vehicles abroad and what it takes to bring them into the UK, vis-a-vis import duty and uk registration etc. I may be looking at a mog abroad, which i dont think is even registered, but want to find out what the pitfalls are before i get involved.

It’s not that difficult within the EU, once it is in the country you need to inform the VAT man within a week (I think) and pay the VAT value of the vehicle.

 

Then you need to insure it (probably on the chassis number) and get an MOT (not sure how that’s going to work if you register it Agg.)

 

You may need evidence of type approval. Pay the registration fee and VED and off you go.

or pay the VAT abroad at the point of sale, the VAT man hear than has NO claim

 

it depends on IF you are VAT registered so can claim back VAT paid hear.

There are specialist importers who do everything for you for a flat fee. E.g. I used to know a guy round here (who may still be about for all I know) who charged a flat fee of £1500 for a vehicle. That was 4-5 years ago. You got him doing the sourcing, the collection, the paperwork and the driving of the new vehicle to your door.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a company who can do the above service from spain? Trawled the internet already to no avail.
