wood pellet machine

a m8 of mine has just purchased a wood pellet machine, he's been going on about it being the way forward, personally i prefer the the good old fashioned logs.

 

weve been chattin about the whole process, starting with felling the tree, then de-limbing then de-barking then seasoning then chipping then process into pellets.he reckons he can sell it at £160 a tonne and he's based in kent.

 

to me it seems like a really really really long process....

I guess the quickest process is to leave the tree where it is, no outlay on tools, zero time and effort, and zero return.

 

What do you get per tonne for processed seasoned firewood?

The pellet idea is to use unusable waste wood from other processes. Like saw dust & chippings. Not to actually process wood that could be used as it is or for less inputs of time, money & machinery.

he reckons that for a bizniz he would have to use coppice at some point as he wouldnt be able to get hold of enuf waste, but he has a cilent who likes different types of wood, for bbq's

Pelleting is the way forwards, it is the prefered product of many of the major biomass buyers. He is quite right that 160.00 per ton is achievable if not more.

 

DRAX will buy as much pellet of you as you can produce right now.

 

The advantages of pellet are clean and dry, much more energy per ton than chip, easily transportable and for the smaller installs automation is easy.

 

Cannock Chase visitor centre and many other FC visitor centres have pellet boilers installed.

 

Virgin wood isn't a problem as recycled fibre can be used if the power station has the correct emission control equipment.

 

Your friend will do very very well.
