Thank you all. There is some good points there both fore and against.

I only run one truck now, and i alone drive it. The driver issue isnt a big one, try finding a groundie with a trailer licence to tow the chipper any way! The older lads that can most of them have there 7.5t licence any way from before the rules chamged and if the cpc isnt needed that makes it easier

Quite a few firms run two x 3.5t tippers instead of one 7.5t etc...flexibility, easy to get on drives with, good for smaller jobs, easier to find drivers etc...if one goes down your still running etc...

I'm getting towards this, I think the right thing would be to do my HGV licence then the trailer test again :sneaky2: and my b1e doesn't cover HGV towing. Then a 6-6.5 t iveco etc

Or to get another 3.5t tipper... Been thinking about it for a while :blushing:

If i worked in the city i would have a 7.5 tonner and the new 8" lightweight timberwolf.

Chip all day without leaving site and have a nice comfy seat home.

7.5 tonners are buttons, the fuel saving alone compared to multiple runs with a 3.5 tonner falling apart struggling all day overloaded.

Trouble with that is you need a C+E licence

I know these aren't accurate but

3.5 t, vehicle weight with box on and equipment and guys - 1.5-2 ton so that leaves you with 1 ton to play with. I'm not sure if chipper is included in that.

7.5t vehicle with equip and men + hiab - 3.5 ton so you have 4 ton to play with and no heavy lifting/ringing up and all that sawdust.
