On our local news tonight some bar stewards have nicked 2 fully kitted out RNLI quad bikes out of the locked up RNLI boat station which they use on the treacherous coastal sands. How low can low life get.

My brothers are farmers and run a Honda. It gets about 30 hours use a week.

They do get to be a bit of a pain electrics wise after 3 or 4 years but no major issues. They sell them at 4 years old and are now on their third.

We have a Honda Foreman , 450cc 2/4 wheel drive , it's right handy and has been fantastic , must have had it 7 or 8 years now . I've been told the one's with electric gear shifting can be a pain ? Can't comment myself as ours is a manual .

For me it has to be Yamaha, had a grizzly 660 and kodiak 400. Im waiting for a diesel gator or similar to come along. kodiak is a great bike. grizzly loves petrol and irs is lethal when loaded. Current work dictates utv so thats what Ill get. though the hilux will do for the moment.. never use rose tinted glasses when looking at quads, there never great workhorses even the 6x6 polaris arent great

Part of the reason I dont use the hilux so much is the diodes in the alternator are draining the battery over night. Have you ever changed the diode pack in a mk 3 55 amp alternator or know of a good unit ?

I have a good chap who does anything I need in starters and alternators, he uses decent parts and isnt dear, the only recurring problem I had on my mk3s electrics was the black box up on the wing. other than that I ghot him to do anything the truck needed.

There's a guy in Petersfield who sorted a mates forwarder alternator recently. However, can't you just get a new one cheap from the local motor factors??

I have had a look about several times in the past but a good new one looks about £300 a cheap one on ebay at the moment at £94 but who knows if they are any good. Used ones come up for £70-£100. I just need to get my finger out and move it up the to be bodged list

trouble with hitching a double axle trailer to a quad is that the quad towball is much lower than standard ball hitch so hard to push trailer down lifting the rear wheels oh and they are great for skinning your knuckles when taking them off!!!!

great with single axles though
