Help on options for 4x4 with 3500kg towing...?

Went down the Dmax route. Not towed 3.5 tonne yet but I am sure it would be happy on flatter roads but as Matt mentioned it geared a bit high so stop start on hilly lanes could prove tricky. You have the low range box; not quite sure how it works but the diff will start chewing up your tyres on corners.

I'm still looking at what with out a doubt will tow 3.5T legally out of the factory.

 

Can a Defender 90? What about a transit? Can a hilux invincible? The trailer and the way it's pulled is one thing but it's cart before the horse!🐴

 

Could really be doing with knowing all my vehicle options first.

Any defender can tow 3.5t legally. Most transits are 2.2 or 2.7t, I think some are over 3t but depends on the particular vehicle. Look at the vin plate to be sure.

You really need to be looking at the train weigth of a pickup- the trouble being- many pickups are rated to tow 3.5ton but because their train weight isn't high enough you are not allowed much/if any weight in the actual pickup. IMO this is pretty much essential when towing the full 3.5t on hilly country. The Landrover is brilliant in this aspect as you can load up the landrover to its full capacity AND tow 3.5t which is safer then towing 3.5t without any weight in the pickup- the backends are light enough as it is.

I tow 2 x 1 tonne pallets of pellets on my IFWs fairly often with a Defender 90, you certainly know you have got it behind you. Like to get it onto the motorway and toddle along at about 50mph, pain in the backside for the HGVs but dare not drive it any faster.

I found my disco 2 happy with 2500kg it could do 3500kg but the Amazon does it with ease. A 110 with 16 ft trailer would probably feel more stable.
