do you always have to return the saw to the place of purchase or will some dealers honour a warrenty anyway as presumably the costs are passed on to the manufacturer?

Either way, if you don't support your local dealer they won't be there in business to sort it out will they...:001_rolleyes::001_smile:

I reckon most will begrudgingly carry out warranty work. But don't expect them to be quick. Mind you, I wouldn't counter on all dealers being quick anyway. You just have to live with what you're presented with; main thing is to have a backup saw if your livelihood depends on it.

I had a minor issue a couple of years ago with my local dealer not wanting to look at my saw because I didn't buy it off them. Rang Husqvarna who sorted it out. I didn't buy off the local dealer initially as they were a lot more expensive.

Going to be in a similar boat soon, want to get a 550xpg in the new year but suspect the local dealer will be a lot more expensive again if it's anything like last time.

To me it's just the same as when buying cars. I go wherever is the best deal whether that be local or the other end of the country.

If its Stihl then it has to be a dealer you can go into as they have a hand over policy.

Some people do just look for the best price and then say that company is fantastic because of the price... service is what you want. Try your local dealer first even if it is a saw you can buy online, it makes it a lot easier if you are having problems with the saw for both you and the dealer.

If you buy online, the manufacturer won't allow your local dealer won't honour the warranty.

How does that stand legally??

One dealer is like another, I can take my Aston (I wish) to any dealer for warranty work.

If its a warranty issue any dealer should be able to deal with it.
