Hot tub

Has anybody made a hot tub?

 

I want (well, the wife wants so I Need!) A hot tub. I was thinking egg-shaped, barrel construction with straight (vertical) sides, about 10x6ft.

 

I'd thought to use a heap of 4x2" with the edges cut to the appropriate angle, single dowel near the top. The bottom to have a groove routered in for the floor. The whole lot held together by two stainless hoops all the way round and obviously wood fire heated.

 

What wood would be best? I was thinking Cedar or even Douglas?

The floor I thought just 12mm marine ply doubled up on a simple framework of 4x2's.

 

Any experience, thoughts, hints and tips would be gratefully received.

I hate the friggin things . A chaved up neighbor of mine has one and keeps me awake till 2 and 3 in the morning .......

This will be absolutely no use to you whatsoever.......

 

But me and a load of mates built an awesome hot tub at uni out of old pallets (structure), carpet underlay (insulation and comfort), and a giant tarpaulin (to hold the water).

 

House parties were legendary and we used to get everyone to chip in for the 'leccy meter as we rigged up a hose pipe from the hot tap in the kitchen to outside and it took all day to fill up and shed loads of 50p's!!!

 

The record was 16 people in it in one go!

It was very sturdy and even had integrated seating at 2 levels.

 

We wernt popular with the neighbours because we didn't go to bed full stop!

 

Looking back, they were great care free times..... but in hindsight - I was probably a right tit!!

Thats the LOGOSOL one, they are a really neat design, and being wood fired just makes them better still.

meybs didn't explain that well. look at this

 

the stove is top fed with the firebox in the water.direct heat. 1 wheel barrow of wood for one 7 person hot tub last time i did it.

 

also have used an inflatable birth pool with hot water from our wood fired rayburn which is good but takes 3/4 hours to fill with hot water.
