Cold hands tips.

I suffer from Reynauds Syndrome (poor circulation) in my hands, always have done.

 

Apart from decent gloves, of which I have a massive selection for various applications, does anyone have any tips for toasty mitts? Especially when climbing. Cupping the exhaust of the 540 helped today, but it's not great on Silky work!

I suggest two things Mark.

 

1: Cuddle the customer more.

2: Extra sessions of male private exercise.

I suffer from reynauds as well and have found that rather than wool gloves, silk ones as a liner because silk still holds heat even when wet and is very light and flexible. Try http://www.heinie.com

My circulation is pretty pants too, I've used the showa thermal gives and had some success so long as I've a dry pair spare.

Generally I just spend winter climbing bare handed with a pile of frozen gloves in the van though. Which I find a little miserable. Will have to try out some of these ideas.

I think these are what we have been using, they are made for cold store / abattoir type work:

They wear out in a week of hard use..

I'm a sufferer too; take a look at the Seal Skinz, I had a pair jonks ago and they worked well. I always found that once I got going and the core temp was up it soon passed but the moment I slackened off it came back.

 

Now I sit on my gloves driving to site (I'm not wearing them at this point.....) and put them on straight away once on site; I've even taken to directing the vans air vents away from my hands whilst driving to reduce the air flow over my delicate pinkies....

I'd vouch for silk gloves

 

I used to slip a pair of silk gloves under my motorbike gloves for winter use,

found it used to do the trick - they were only light weight summer gloves but would allow me to wear all year round.

If the van's cold too I stuff my gloves down my trousers while I'm getting a line set, sorting out the site etc

Maintains their warmth till I'm climbing and gives me a chance for some sneaky male private exercises... or just to creep people out.
