This is how I would price it assuming its within 10 miles of the yard and all chip and timber is to be removed.

Day 1: 3 man team, strip the tree, section down to a suitable felling height, chip all branches and take away any timber (shouldn't be much).

Day 2: 3 man team, straight fell the trunk, leave groundworkers to ring it up while I take the wood back to the yard, clean up, blow all the sawdust into the river ;) Should get finished early enough

£900 and I would get a few hundred quids worth of hardwood timber too

Working at Height risk Assessment-

Work should be planned, organised and supervised and undertaken in line with the following hierarchy (or something like):

•Avoid the risks of working at height by achieving the desired results from the ground.

•Achieve the desired results using pole pruners, pole saws and pole mounted chainsaws.

•Minor (small diameter) pruning works and hedge trimming operations may be undertaken from a secured ladder, steps or purpose built platform.

•Access the crown of the tree using a MEWP.

•Access the crown of the tree using approved climbing and work positioning techniques.

Job has £810 on it, explore your options for undertaking the removal following the above hierarchy. Consult Approved Codes of Practice and Industry Guidance to firm up your planning.

Fingers crossed you make some profit.

If you charged more then you wouldn't have to keep your fingers crossed to make profit, 510 for 3 men Plus chipper is way to cheap.

Cheers for all the advice/comments :).

My price is at the lower end of what's been suggested but there's a few reasons .The experience I'll gain from completing the job, in any way, is worth a lot to me & It's about 3 miles away from me. And as said, prices in this area are pretty low and not massive amounts of work around.

Thanks for the offer of taking the timber but it would come back to the farm for firewood.

There's some huge price differences going on? Some are near twice what Others suggest!

Is it though? I would consider that good money for 3 men (inc climber) and a chipper. I recon if you can't make a good enough profit out of the above figure you need to reconsider your overheads.

I'm confident of what prices get work round here (Dartmoor) and those quoting over a grand for that tree simply wouldn't get it if the customer was getting other quotes.

I love these threads, so much variety all the time:laugh1:

My plan of attack would be to arrange with a friend of mine who's a farmer to come and collect the whole tree with a couple of tractors and trailers ( one with loader ). The timber is their payment for firewood, for which they need, all i have to do is get the county and winch there to put slight tension on the tree as felling it with a thick back hinge in a controlled manner, once the tree is down it is cross cut into 8' lenghs and loaded into the trailers, so my efforts will take me 2 hours max, the removal of the tree is their part. No fuss no bother and very little costs involved, my price £800. No need for chippers either as i said they will take the whole tree. All this is agreed with all parties before hand,
