How has this moron survived in the wild for so long?

Caught this on the TV last night. Scroll through to the 27 minute mark.

Episode 2: Alaska | Ben Fogle: New Lives In The Wild | Channel 5

What a waste of a Lewis Winch and Stihl chainsaw.

I don't know a lot about the way he did other things, but going by his chainsaw skills I'm willing to bet neither does he. Hence the thread title.

Can't see the automatic fish thing working. As for composting the fish to fertilize the garden- why not do as man has done for millennia, and eat the damn things? Spread the guts and your crap on the garden- after extracting maximum nutritional value for your body from the fish.

What a moron.

Hats off to the guy, he obviously has a lot of skills snd determination, but the chainsaw use was cringeworthy! If civilisation is miles away and you have no money, wouldn't you try and preserve the life in your chain? And what's wrong with leaving a stump, he's just got rootplates in the air and holes in the ground now!

I disagree. I think he's dumb but tough. Everything looked like hard work. You'd have thought they'd have become more efficient after 25 years.

On a less savoury note, something registered regarding his attitude towards his wife. Not sure I like him very much.

So rather than just straight felling the trees they cut into the roots with the saw and attempt to pull the trees over with a small winch? And all this to avoid leaving a stump!? What about the huge rootplate they've left and the dull chains that need resharpened every 5 minutes! Idiots....

Going to have to watch this now thanks!

Thought Fogle seemed sound when he broke on the scene, although I watched his last series, which was quite interesting in parts, but he came over as a bit of a soft whopper really, especially as he describes himself as an 'adventurer' and has had almost twenty years experience.

I'd probably rather be stuck on a 'desert-island' with a hungry lion ;)

Don't agree with the comments on this thread towards the guy

You can use your chainsaw and winch however you want, it's yours. Yes the way they were using a chainsaw was not strict H&S, but show me a 73 yr old who does.

As for the fish, do you know what species they are and if they're worth eating? Or if they had surplus to requirements?

I don't think you can sit on your sofa in front of your TV and call a guy who has lived in the wilderness for 25yrs a moron. If anything the presenter is more of a moron.
