110 Tipper.

This is my 4th land rover but my first tipper and my first 200tdi. I find there is stacks of grunt. Alarming amounts of oil leaks but that may be normal! Galv chassis and spotless bulkhead and footwells. Tipper works though its slow to come back down, wondering if a change of oil may help with that. Need to build a chip box too....

 

 

The tipper will come down quicker once you have a chip body on as they can be a bit light.

So after reading this thread and having seen Ferguson forestrys mates landy on e bay I gave him a call. Seemed like a very decent guy, the landy sounded solid so I took the plunge on Saturday. I live and work in Somerset so I got a cheapo easyjet flight from Bristol to Edinburgh early (wife not at all impressed as she dropped me there!) And Stevie met me at the airport with the landy. Did the deal, fueled up and started the 450 mile drive to Somerset. It was actually ok. Driving through Scottish borders was fun. Slight issue when the lead came off the starter but other than that she was great!

Yeah that makes sense Hodge. I was thinking of mounting the spare wheel in the back up against the ladder rack to add some more weight.

 

 

Don't do it !!!! I put my spare in the back was fine until I got a puncture on the way home one night and had to dig the wheel out brought a roof rack and it lives up there now

Keep the wheel on the bonnet, it makes the Defender more aero dynamic ( that's a fact by the way).

 

That was one of my worst moves, it totally screws your perception of where the corner is for me, although I am getting used to it now finally.

Anyone got one?

 

One of our land rovers was rolled recently, insurance wise its a total loss, but the chassis and running gear are perfect (it was flipped by a trailer straight onto its roof). So I am now thinking or converting it into a tipper, the crew that use it have a tracked chipper and actually take very little chip home so I am thinking it may be quite useful. That said the tipper must be pretty small on a 110? anyone got one and can give me the cubic capacity? a few pics would be handy too.

 

Any other experiences to share? tool storage, handling roof racks etc.

 

I will be planning on uprating the springs, to take the weight.. Can you overload a 110 tipper or is it too small, she's currently plated at 3050kg, empty she'll be about 2 ton, can you fit a ton of chip in it? I have my doubts, but it could always be uprated if necessary......

 

Not a pretty sight is she?
