Article research - How much do you charge for a days work?

I have different rates for Commercial and Domestic work. Commercial is aound £25 per man day less because most of my commercial is Estate, LA and National trust and this is carried out on a trust/dayrate basis. This means no quoting involved but I do charge for any site visits or time taken to arrange these works though. This type of work is 30-50% of our turnover and I feel it is fair to reduce costs involved for these clients due to the ammount of work they put ourway and the time I save by not quoting.

Same here only commercial is around 80-90% of our turnover.

No chipper?

Do you carry some goats round with you?

No goats, I think goats could make the day a bit more interesting though haha, we justy cross cut it and jump on it alot, no where near as efficent as chipping obviously but the work is local as i mentioned earlier and its only a tenner a load to get rid of it sotheres no major loss.

I remember those 'good' ole days stamping the brash down, cutting it up, stamping it down, cutting it up and so on.... Then the unload from a non tipping trailer... I don't miss those days! :001_tongue:

Speaking of goats they are actually an exellent way to get rid of general waste. My brother and his mate in Cornwall used to tip for a fiver and this guys goats used to eat the lot! - no rhode or yew allowed.

I digress from the thread. Just to add to the recent comments I have to say I tend to charge the same be it private or commercial or whoever. The only time my rate comes down if there is prime timber to mill. But then most of my work is private. It would probably be a different story if most was commercial.

Conversion rates of quotes to jobs..

As a quick study what percentage of jobs do you win?

Just by looking at my domestic jobs over the last 5 years I compared the files in my quotes folder (1100) to invoices (700). That means I invoice about 64% of the domestic jobs I've quoted for..

If its a referral I generally get the job. If they are from anywhere else the less than 50%
