Other tradesmen who are good at what they do recommend me, and I recommend them.

I win, they win, and the customer wins because only people who will do a good job get recommended.

Apart from me, like.

I think what seems fair for me at present, having taken on board all the views, Is that as im fairly new and unestablished at working for myself, with limited contacts and referrals to offer, the drink and finders fee on introduction is all i can and should be offering.

Will be good to get to a place where i can be part of a good contractors network.

, the next time a saw him I gave him a £80 drink, all sorted..

That's what I can't fathom, when you say 'a drink' isn't that a tenner or a bottle of red? £80 is a session!

There doesn't seem to be a scale that applies to 'a drink.' It ranges from a fiver to £100? But there's a world of difference - stopping off for a cheeky pint on the way home - fiver.

Spending £100 on ale - an all dayer, a brush with the law, banned from the local, threats of divorce and spending the night in the dogs bed!

"a drink", figure of speech. Bit like giving someone a monkey!

You don't need to spend it all at once!

I have a small circle of other trades, plumber, electrician, gardener, fencer etc etc. Regularly get calls from potential clients where one of these has recommended me and i,in turn put a lot of potential work their way,and this works very well.

After ive won the work i usually call the finder and thank him personally.
