TW125 problem

Sounds a plan.

I fired it up again today, and it won't tick over without a bit of choke.

It sounds ok, but I wonder if the engine isn't producing its usual power, which would screw up everything else?

Yes, because the wheel isn't turning at the required rate.

Sounds like it's the engine.

Sounds like an engine issue to me Mark, if it takes 30 sec to get back up to speed and it likes choke I'd start with the engine.

Haven't noticed it John.

Bled the carb, loads of crap in that line, and blew crap back through the line into the fuel tank.

Air intake into the carb was filthy.

 

I'll swap the fuel filter this afternoon and report back.

Could be crud in the fuel tank. If you just change the filter it'll suck more through sooner or later & you'll have same problem.

I'd say it's a tank off n swill out job. Then fresh fuel & filter.

Not something the fitter would do on a standard service.

 

& cheap if it works

Fuel tank was minging.

Drained and swilled out.

Can't get a fuel filter till tomorrow.

I'm worried about crap in the carb now.

 

Also, the engine had hardly any oil in it, and the plug and fuel filter hadn't been replaced.

Some service that was, then.

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'd be lying.

I would get on the blower mate and give them some! Well out of order if you payed for a full service.

Most servicing is very good. Some is not. Any motor insurer will tell you that something like 90% of vehicle fires occur in the first week after a major service.

 

It sounds like the classic unsupervised apprentice to me. Hopefully a re-jig of the fuel system and you'll be away again.

Lets hope theres no long lasting issues from poor servicing! No or lack of oil is a serious issue... get on the phone and get them to pick it up and.rectify it!
