Had a bad experience with a member on here

A couple of weeks ago a member on here posted a thread sayinf he had some logs for sale. As it was only over the fields from me I replied and went and had a look. We came to an arrangement and i paid him £145 cash. A few hours later we get a phone call to say he has had a better offer and to come and collect my money, stupidly I did not go over immedialty but told him to bring the money over to me. The next day we had another call to say the second buyer had pulled out and I could have the logs. I told him he had broken our contract , I wanted my money back and that this was not the way to do business.

He agreed to bring my money back on the thursday. He did not show up and it was becoming increasingly difficult to get him to answer his phone. He promised the money on the following thursday but again no show.

He then said he would not return the money and that the timber was still on site and that I should go and take it. I went across to the site and of course the timber had all gone.

Hey ho, I think I will just put it down to experience.

John

You need to vent your spleen with the guy in question - whoever he is...Arbtalk in'st the European Court Of Human Rights !

Though personally I could never let something like this go.

Putting is down to experience sounds abit lame but just remember if you get no redress...

Revenge is a dish best served cold :sneaky2:

Can feel this thread getting closed soon.

Much as I feel a great deal of sympathy with the OP, what is it that any of us can expect from this forum. It's just not their job.

Like I said, just warn who you can, and move on.

No one said you you did, but in order to keep threads of this nature civil, it is necessary to delete posts that are by definition inciting the issue further.

It's quite clear that the alleged behaviour is something that has got certain people's blood boiling, but we can and will not let the forum drift away from its core set of rules.

With respect, there are vey few who realise how much time is put in (voluntarily) to help to moderate the site and keep it running as a civil and enjoyable forum.

Understood, well done:thumbup1:

This kind of thing happens from time to time, it does seem more prevalent among the firewood guys though. I got taken for 2.5k by a guy last year, I found out a few days ago that he has had a massive stroke so I doubt I'll ever see it now....

It could just as easily have happened with a guy from gumtree, ebay, or the local paper, not just AT.

Pretty piss poor behaviour IMO, not sure I would walk from £145 that easily and would knock on his door to find out what his issue is.

The other party isn't a long term member so not sure the Arbtalk mods & Steve can do anything or should.

Fortunately I have never had any issues like this!

Yes , I think this thread has run it's course.

What annoyed me most was the fact that this guy saw nothing wrong in breaking our contract as long as he made a few extra pounds. He told me we are all in business to make money.

That's a shame ,I have made a lot of deals ,trades swaps and been given and given away things on this forum with only good experiences but I personally would rather know who to avoid but obviously due to legal reasons naming and shaming is not allowed but its a shame there ip address can not be banned though, I don't like to be surrounded by untrust worthy people and probably why I find myself posting less these days.
