Seasoning Beech ?

How do I season large diameter Beech Butts? Thank you for any tips/suggestions.

if its for firewood then as has been said the sooner it is processed then the quicker it'll dry out. However, if its to season as a whole then all you can do is stack the butts on good bearers in a drafty spot and be very patient. We've done some very large windblown beech recently and despite being down for nearly 2 years there is still plenty of moisture in it

I think the centre will rot before it seasons.

Hucks right beech will go mushy in the middle when left for long periods.If it's under 12 inch and had some of the bark removed in the harvesting process the mc will have dropped by quite a big %. Would still need splitting and storing to get it right

Saw it into planks and "stick" it.

Process the waste for firewood.

 

Used to transport loads and loads of French beech boules, all sawn, sticked and banded, from dock to various furniture makers.

If it's for firewood then the rounds become much harder to split once seasoned, I found out by accident after leaving some stuff which I didn't need to split in the round these were 36 inch diameter.
