How long do you keep trying with a trainee

I think its what is being reared these days, no flexing or trying life/survival skills. We see them everywhere. The only thing I would want to verify if that does he have any disability. Obviously its not fair him being in a situation where he needs to be sharp. Tree equipment and work requires nanosecond responses.

But if you let him go and the discrimination card comes back, it could be messy.

 

I would personally say how you feel, commend him for the good qualities he has and then discuss areas of concern. Probably chat to him the 1st thing one morning. Then he has the day to mull it over rather than going home freshly dejected and angry.

 

 

Very sound statement. Respect to you for not treating your subordinates like lesser beings :)

 

A lot of people could take a leaf out of that book. On occasion myself included. :thumbup:

I spent a small fortune on kitting out and training my young jedi tree climber . Then 6 years later he decided that he really wanted to be a chef ? I lost a lot of money and wasted a lot of time the later of which really gets to me even now . I should of had him sign a contract ? If I ever did this again I would get the trainee to sign a contract , so if they left after two years they would pay a % back on all training cost etc .

I have signed a contract to this effect. It's fair enough. My employer spends time and money training me, I return with hard work and loyalty. If I leave within a certain amount of time I cover a % of the training cost.

 

In your case however, after 6 years I would have expected your climber to have paid off his debt and been earning you money for a few years. Besides, it's not like he left to set up on his own or work for the competition. It's not ideal I know, but at least it was nothing personal :)

I thought that you had to provide training and equipment and even they sign a contract they dont have to pay the cost back?

Six YEARS!!

How very dare he. One should expect him to stay for sixty years to pay off the debt before he even thinks about a pay rise.

 

 

Or perhaps you meant six months.
