Great programme about an iconic plane. Although I wasn't about thankfully when they was at the height but to here the spitfire sends shivers down my spine. What a awesome sound and plane which was made by our ancestors at a time off real hardship . 2 years to make this one and during the war they made several a week.

Fantastic program. the bloke who rents the airfield next to my new yard has got some fantastic stories. His first job was flying Spitfires to the scrapyard with the RAF. He is also rescued Spitfires and two squadrons of hurricanes from Russia in the last 30 years and a focke Wolf fw 189, which is now in America are being rebuilt the only one left

Enjoyed the program but I sensed that it was new build plus a recon Merlin rather than a restoration of Geffrey Stephenson's MK1. However, I might be wrong.

A few years ago you could buy a new merlin from a company in USA they were manufacturing them for some racing application ( planes I think but might have been boats )
