How are people finding their new Isuzu D-Max?

Keep an eye on the oil level if it starts to rise get it to the dealers and burn their ears to change that and the oil filter free until they find a proper cure.

 

Oil level sits high - will try to get it changed next time they take it for testing, next week I'm told. But then they said that last week too. Cheers for the warning.

Mines been good and reliable, bought last November and just turned 18k. Has had three recalls carried out recently but as stated Iv had no problems. In general for the money, warranty and on paper there's not a lot that will compare.

I don't own one but was told by a dealer a few weeks ago the oil dilution was only a problem if the vehicle was pottled about slowly round farmers fields and left ticking over while you feed pheasants etc. if you spend half your time on A roads and motorways you should be ok.

Good points.

 

Not noticed any problems with fuel getting into the oil and I do a bit of pootling. Never had the DPF light go on. It goes like the clappers in reasonable comfort and tows very well at speed and on the flat. Surprisingly good off road

 

Bad points.

 

Disappointed with poor fuel economy and high gearing. Almost Never get over 30mpg however it's driven. For a supposed combined figure of 37 or 38 mpg seems to miss the mark by some distance. The high gearing takes a bit of adapting to after a Defender. If using the Dmax as a car it's not an issue but start slow maneuvering with load up and it's a pain. You can drop down into Low box but then the difflock kicks in and you get wind up between the front and rear axle. Not a problem on loose gravel or fields when the wheels can slip but backing a load of logs up a steep tarmac drive you can feel the torque windup on the transmission.

 

Not driven any of the other pickups. Previous vehicle was Defender 90

One more thing.

 

Stupid positioning of the number plate directly behind the hitch. When backing up to trailer you have to very careful not to overshoot or the number plate gets it. Many pickups especially the older ones have a metal bumper and number plate up and out the way. Wish I had looked more closely at the alternatives instead of getting hung up on the 3.5 tonne tow capacity that I will probably never need.

We have a 14 plate dmax on around 15k, it has never had a mechanical issue, literally nothing. Completely agree with every point woodworks makes, ours has mud tyres and struggles to get 25mpg. Also had a defender previously. We do tow 3.5t regularly and once you get used to how to tow with the isuzu its fine, hated it at first. Happy with dmax as a strong work truck

That's quite worrying that you feel the need to use low box when reversing. I've got an older 3 l rodeo and it's the exact opposite. Put it in reverse and tickle the pedal and it all push 5 cube up a steep bank with ease. Looks like I'll be sticking with my truck for another 12 months. Hopefully they will have another 3l model out by then:001_smile:
