Dunno, I have a copy somewhere, I can check but its not one of my regular reads so it may take some finding.

 

 

 

How on earth do you expect to keep up without a copy on your bedside table.

Is the pic def of the author?

 

We always thought it was of John Whitehead, one of our lecturers at Merrist Wood in the 90's.

I am pretty sure that it is John Whitehead ( top bloke !) as well , also I think that tree is at Merrist Wood . I was there in the mid 80's and again in the mid 90's and knew John quite well , absolutely unbelievable on plant knowledge and internationally recognised for that , also very well travelled .

In the bottom right hand pic he appears to be using what I think was a device known as a haebler prussicker ( not sure on spelling ) one of the earliest mechanical devices and considered lethal by many but I knew a few guys who climbed with them for years with no ill effects !!..
